BARISTA goes MUSIC

Like at any other workplace the first 1-2 hours is crucial for how the whole day will turn out. I mean, everybody wants to have a good start, right?
Af ew years ago we had a group of people that worked down the street from us.
One on one they were nice customers but when they showed up as a group they were a pain in the ass
BARISTA B, GROUP G:

B- Here we go again!
Good morning!
G- (silence)
B- HELLO!
G- we´ll have 5 coffees!
B- You can come down here and order at the bar!
G- Ok
B- Still want that coffee or what?
G- yes, and you might wanna turn the music down a bit!
B- I dont think so!
G- But we are here for a chat!
B- or i´ll just wont turn the volume down!
G- we are actually gonna have our morning meeting here now!
B- What you are saying IS that you leave your office comming to MY work to have a meeting? About YOUR work!
G- So you dont want us here?
B- I dont understand what you DONT understand, the volume will NOT be turned down, no matter IF you stay, leave OR order coffee!

Maybe no point telling that i did NOT turn the volume down that morning or ANY other morning. The group came back a few times.
As far as i know no one has ever died from little music

BARISTA goes good bye

To make my espressomachine ready for the days work there are some things that needs to be done.
First i have to warm up the ”groups”, and heat up the handles.
Then i blow out the water that is in the steampipe, if you dont use the machine for a few hours the steam in the pipe turns into water.

One morning i was working with CAPO, and for some reson we did let people in befor we were open, STUPID, i know!
4 people was standing in line waiting for us to get ready.

CAPO was preparing the espressomachine, MY machine.
He did all the stuff and when he got to the steampipe he turned it slightly upwards.
The result of that was when he turned the steam on great amount of water sprayed directly at the womand standing in line,
She screamed out loud, she was wearing a fur and and her chest got very wet.
CAPO C, WOMAN W

W- oh my god!
C- What?
W- What are you doing?
C- WHAT ?
W- Do you have any idea how mutch this fur costs?
C- No!
W- it needs to be drycleaned now!
C- SO??
W- you do understand that you will have to pay for it, don´t you?
C- well, what the hell are you doing in here? We´re not even open.
Good bye!
W- But…
C- GOOOD BYE!

I can imagen that the lady bought her breakfastrolls some place else, she must heve liked them, becouse i NEVER saw here again.
I wonder how mutch she payed for the drycleaning, we never got to ask her!

BARISTA goes NOT OPEN YET

It doesn´t matter when you open in the morning, there is always someone who wants to come in early, and always with the same words:

- I just wanna!
Or
- I ´am in a hurry!

The classic case is that at 8.50, we open at 9, the door opens:

- You open yet?
- In a moment!
- How long?
- Just a few minutes!
- Can i just get a coffee?
- Oh, you can, i just……
- Or a toast to go?
- Like i said, in a few moments, i´am not quite ready yet!
- You say you open at 9, my watch IS 9!
- OK, mine is NOT, and that is the time that meen something.

60% of my days start like this, the strange thing is that 50% of the times it´s always the same person that asks the same thing.

I ask myself if these people can buy something at wallmart 10 min before they open?

BARISTA goes INTERNATIONAL

12 years on the same spot is a long time.
Here will i post stories from a place that is "home" for thousands of people.
The joy of standing day out and day in on the same place year after year is priceless.
will write about how people behave, say and do.

I work at a Italian espressobar, BARISTA is my profession.
When i say "i have heard it all" i do mean ALL.
During the past 12 years i have met all kinds of people, some good some worse.
Some of them are now my closest friends.
I have never looked at what we do as just work, it´s more of an hoby, and i have spent the past years observing, listening to what goes on around us at work.
You might call it a social experiment, you might call it plain stupid.

There has been many greatfull words down the road, many angry moments.
I dont point fingers at them who does wrong, they actually are the ones who make my day.
Join me as i tell you amazing stories from my place, at a corner anywhere.

English is not my language of choise so please let me know when i do fuck up
